New social media model : automating the social graph with faveeo.com

We often hear that the new social media will be based on relationships between users and their « friends » and "interests" networks.

The new social media should give us better information as the information would not be provided by insensitive and cold computer systems, but through our network of friends whose direct filters would become our window to the world.

Personally, I do not think this kind of network could provide me with information truly in line with my interests and tastes. Not because I'm friends with half my family on facebook that I am necessarily interested in the videos and content that they will be posting!

Also, if I do not want to receive the same information that moves around the blogosphere (iPad anyone?), I have to multiply and vary my sources of information, so I would need to actually take some take making new friends on those networks to really enjoy the power of information sharing in those social networks.

But here's the paradox of the current system: If I need to get out of my own network of friends and make all that searching myself to get good sources of information, in what is the social media actually helping me save time?

If I had to search for good information sources before, now I still have to search for those good sources in the social media! My all-powerful social network is not enough most of the timem, and I find myself trying to expand it to finally have a good balanced, interesting and reliable information. Tiem saving? Not so sure.

And the wheel turns .. Once I have expanded my contacts and my friends over my networks to get access to some good recommended information, it becomes clear that this new model of « social » media gives me as much if not mork work to actually search and filter for good and valuable information from all these new friends of mine!

Suppose that in the end I follow a thousand Twitter accounts, and decided to follow another hundred blogs that seem interesting ... The reality is that I find myself at the starting point: a surplus of information and inability to consume it!

In short, if I stay connected to my real network in "meatspace" I am limited by the lack of intereting information, and if I enlarge my network to find people that fits my interests I am quickly overwhelmed, especially with the new model of micro information.

The solution? Automate the process of connecting with sources and relationships that would be potentially interesting! I would not have to actually search for new contacts to follow or new blog posts to read anymore!

The ideal system would not only « suggest » new interesting sources to follow, but it would also suggest interesting content from all around the network, no matter if you are actually connected to the original source or not!

This way, I could rely on a the system to actually find good content for me, because the algo would simply analyse my behaviour and my interaction with the actual content, and the relations I have with people on several networks!

How does this sound? I hope it sounds good, cause that's what we would like to accomplish with faveeo.com!
